What to expect in a Reiki session

If you’ve never experienced reiki before, it’s completely natural to wonder what a session actually looks like and what you’re “meant” to feel.

A reiki session is a calm, supportive space where you are invited to simply rest, receive, and allow your body and energy to do what they know how to do.

Before the Session

We begin with a brief conversation about why you’ve come for a session. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you like — there’s no pressure to explain or relive anything.

It’s important to know that I don’t need any information for the reiki to work. Reiki is intelligent energy and it goes exactly where it’s needed in each session, regardless of what is spoken aloud.

During the Session

You’ll remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on your back on a massage table, and covered with a blanket so you feel warm and supported.

Before we begin, I’ll always check that you’re happy for me to use gentle touch. During the session, I move around your body as guided by the energy. This may involve:

  • Light hands-on contact
  • Hands hovering at varying distances above your body

Every session is different, and the flow is guided intuitively.

What You Might Experience

There is no “right” way to experience reiki. People experience sessions in many different ways, and all of them are normal.

You might notice:

  • Sensations of warmth or coolness
  • A feeling of multiple hands on your body
  • Gurgling in the stomach or digestive sounds
  • Emotions rising to be felt and released
  • Deep relaxation or falling asleep
  • Or you may feel very little physically at all

Whatever you experience — or don’t experience — is perfect for you and your system in that moment.

Ending the Session

When the session is complete, I’ll gently touch you on the shoulder and let you know. You’re encouraged to take your time coming back, moving slowly and staying present in your body.

I’ll offer you some water to help ground and rehydrate your system, and it’s important to drink plenty of water for the rest of the day.

After the Session

We’ll have a relaxed chat about how you found the session. I’ll also share anything I noticed, experienced, or any messages that came through during your treatment.

Reiki continues to work beyond the session itself, and many people notice subtle shifts in the hours or days that follow.
