Did I believe in Reiki before I started this journey? No, not particularly. I don’t think I really understood what it was. Most of my life has been dedicated to a corporate career, growing a PR Agency. Over 25 years, I poured my heart and soul into the business. I thought I was happy and successful, but I thought wrong.
In 2019, I started having panic attacks out of the blue and my anxiety started to spiral out of control. I have since realised that I had become very good at functioning through my anxiety and masking it. And my very sensitive nature had made me so tuned into others that I had started to disappear into other people without realising it. I had completely lost myself.
I remember the night I was scrolling through Facebook and saw the post from my daughter’s horse riding teacher. I had no idea (until I read her post) that she was a Reiki Master. There was a line in her post that asked, “do you feel like your old way of being isn’t working anymore” and it resonated with every fibre of my being. She was posting about a Level I Reiki course. I signed up without any hesitation and with little knowledge of what I was even signing up for. It just felt right.
The course involved Equine Reiki and I had no knowledge or connection with horses (besides watching my daughter ride on weekends). As I progressed through the course, it came time to do our first Reiki session with a horse and I was paired with Sam. Everyone else entered the paddock with their assigned horse but I did not. Due to my limited knowledge of horses, I felt safer on the fence line. Sam didn’t mind though, and he came right up to the barrier so that I could easily reach him. He was my teacher that afternoon.
I was still wondering what Reiki was all about and if I had the ability to really channel it. Within a few mins Sam brought his face right up to mine and established what I was later told was a ‘heart-to-heart connection’ with me. I felt an incredible rush of the most beautiful, loving energy that brought me to tears. I understood in an instant how we are all connected by this energy. Sam then proceeded to position different areas of his body under my hands where he needed the energy to flow. Any doubts I had about Reiki were gone. Since then, Reiki, my guides, my Master teachers and the horses I’ve encountered have continued to show me the powerful ways that the energy can work.
